This Taylor UUCP 1.05 package was compiled and assembled by Ralf Flaxa
with HDB config sample files assambled by Harald Milz (hm@seneca.ix.de)
nd Taylor config sample files by Bodo Bauer.

Harald extracted the config files and directories from a _running_ system
(seneca.ix.de). All permissions and ownerships were derived from Tim
O'Reilly and Grace Todino: Managing UUCP and Usenet, O'Reilly and
Associates, 10th edition, pp. 120/121. This book may IMHO be considered the
most helpful and understandable work on UUCP and C-News.

The package was compiled with both HDB_CONFIG and TAYLOR_CONFIG. The default
path for HDB_CONFIG is /etc/uucp/hdb_config and for TAYLOR_CONFIG is
/etc/uucp/taylor_config. You only need one of these to work with UUCP,
however due to a bug in Taylor UUCP 1.04 and 1.05, anonymous UUCP works
with HDB_CONFIG only if you have a file /etc/uucp/taylor_config to
enable the anonymous mode :(. The binaries are dynamically linked against
libc-4.7.4, but should normally run with other versions too.

HDB_CONFIG is described thoroughly in the a.m. book, Taylor mode is
described in the Info pages in /usr/info which can be read with GNU Emacs,
for example.

If compiled like this, UUCP first looks for values in the Taylor config
files, then looks into the respective HDB config files.

To set up a running system use and edit the Taylor config files in
/etc/uucp/taylor_config (you will find additional comments in those files
and in README.Taylor) or copy the HDB config files *.sample files in
/etc/uucp/hdb_config to their normal names, preserving their permissions
(this is especially important for Systems). Modify for your needs. Run.

Sample Taylor config files were assembled & tested by Bodo Bauer
(bodo@hal.nbg.sub.org) and can be found in /etc/uucp/taylor_config.
Have a look at the README.taylor there.

Bug reports and enhancement suggestions should be directed to me.

Enjoy!
