                            Illustrated Audio

                         Revision 0.3 (95-04-12)
                     (c) 1994, 95 Government of Canada

Version 0.2.1 to 0.3:
---------------------
  * Main event processing loop has been significantly changed to correctly
fix some minor bugs which resulted in lost events.

  * Minor memory problems cleaned up.

  * Code was better modularized to allow easier porting. This includes
several name changes to removed the implied X11 interface. The test
the modularization and quick and dirty port to the SVGA Library for
Linux systems was completed. This code is included as lsv*.[ch].

  * Better handling for the text window position. Hopefully no one will
     have "sliding" text window problems.

  * Interlaced GIFs are now supported.

  * JPEGs are now supported. Auto-detection of image types as well as
the possibility to specify the image type in the script. eg:
     Image GIF fred.gif @ 1:34
     Image JPEG fred.jpg @ 2:43
Also a new command line option -slow which will do a two pass
quantization of the jpeg file. This will take considerably longer
     to process.

  * Various minor problems with Linux and X11R6 which have cropped up.
They might be general X11R6 problems.

  * Text window will try to pick up the colours used in the private colormap
to find black and white colours. If no "black" or "white" colors
are picked then the colors which are closest will be used.

  * A new configure program was written to help create a system specific
makefile. All the old system makefiles have been removed from the
distribution because there were too many changes and no way to verify
     them.

  * Watch and warn about audio processes which get killed by a signal or
     exit with a non-zero result.

  * Tabs in text files will be converted to spaces. They are not expanded
to avoid having people rely on them with proportional fonts and correct
processing of tabs to pixels is overkill.

Version 0.2 to 0.2.1:
---------------------
  * Fixed a bug which caused LoadGIF() to fail to load most GIFs which
included extensions (eg: Comment Blocks). It now correctly skips all
     extensions.

  * Fixed a bug which caused images with 256 colors being displayed on a
display with 256 colors to revert to B&W coloring.

  * Added some additional checking in the command line parsing to avoid
segmentation violations when processing compound arguments which were
missing their parameter (eg: "iaplay -v" would core dump).

  * Error in dealing with the script:
     audio @ 0:00
     text @ 0:02
     image @ 0:10

The audio event would end up triggering the image event and delaying
until that time. It now correctly handles solitary audio events.

  *  Makefile.sco was created.

Version 0.1 to 0.2:
-------------------
  *  Various minor cosmetic changes
  * Added linux support by verifying that SIGSYS is defined before
     we attempt to set it.
     Makefile.linux was created.
  *  Added hp-ux support:
       - Added the ability to call an external audio player with defaults
          set for hp-ux and sgi.
       - Conditional define NO_PSIGNAL established to compile on
          systems that don't have a psignal(2) call.
       - Create a Makefile.hpux
  * Rather nasty bug when displaying text files has been fixed
  * Fixed the usage information to put in the correct newlines.
  * Corrected a problem with scripts that have no images but have an
     ending time.
  * Added support for 1 bit and 24 bit displays. The one bit displays
do not have the best output as a trade off to much faster image
decompression. The 24 bit displays have not been heavily tested.
Any reports of oddities would be appreciated.
  * Added command line options to request a specific visual or depth.
These have not been heavily tested as they are more for debugging
     purposes.
  * Recoded the visual selection routine to make a better choice of the
     visual to use.
  * iaunpack changed to fix the "bad trap" error, removing the temporary
directory error and the tar result error.
