What goes in non-volatile storage like the spare CMOS in the wallclock
chip? What kind of settings do you want asserted before you have a HD?
Font? Font height? charcell dimensions? Checksums of stuff? Previous boot
time?

Boot time info is good. Previous-up-hour is doable without any shutdown
ceremony; just update it once an hour or whatever. Knowing how long you've
been up might allow tweaking the wallclock versus the PIT clock, also. The
PIT clocks are supposedly more accurate. Assume wallclock was right at
boot, and reset wallclock periodically to

	boot_wallclock + what_it_is_now_based_on_PIT_ticks

That means saving boot_wallclock, but not necessarily in CMOS.

L uphour
	read century, day, month, hour
save to pcentury, pday, pmonth, phour in CMOS.

Previous_up_second or whatever sortof assumes the previous boot was Ha3sm.
Perhaps a checksum of the Ha3sm data or am ASCII H would avoid some
clock-setting problems. Or checking for reasonable adjustments. A "Ha3sm"
in CMOS would be good too. That, however, doesn't ensure that Ha3sm was
THE last boot.

Another goodie would be prefered CRTC stuff. Come up in hi-rez with no HD.
