If you have the normal "taylor" configuration files for uucp,
then you have to put them in /etc/uucp/.
If you want to use the old-style HDB configuration, you
have to make sure that no taylor-files are in /etc/uucp
and place the hdb-files in /etc/uucp/hdb_config/.

It is best to have /etc/uucp belong to root.root with
permission 0755 and have the config files belong to root, but make
sure that the "call" file with the passwords is also readable
to group uucp.
This makes sure, that the uucp programs can read all config files,
but the uucp user can not modify the files. You need root access
to fiddle with that.

knorke:/etc/uucp $ ls -la
