Mon Mar 24 21:28:27 1997  Thomas Morgan  <tmorgan@gnu.ai.mit.edu>

	Suggested by Christopher Neufeld <neufeld@physics.utoronto.ca>:
	* spell.c (long_options, main): Add support for --corrections (-c)
 	and --word (-w).
	(print_corrections, word): New variables.
	(read_file): Send the string FILE to Ispell if `stream' is NULL
	and `file' is not.
	(parent): Call `read_file' with WORD if it is non-NULL.
	(read_ispell): Print Ispell's suggestions if PRINT_CORRECTIONS.

	* spell.c (main): Put the necessary colons in the call to
 	`getopt_long'.

Sat Mar  8 19:58:14 1997  Thomas Morgan  <tmorgan@gnu.ai.mit.edu>

	* str.c (nstr_to_str): Initialize `str' in its declaration the
	same way it used to be initialized after.

	* spell.c (read_file, read_ispell, read_ispell_errors, new_pipe,
	parent, run_ispell_in_child): Return immediately if any pointer
	arguments are NULL.

Tue Mar  4 22:12:56 1997  Thomas Morgan  <tmorgan@gnu.ai.mit.edu>

	Suggested by Neil Matthews <ndm@ecs.soton.ac.uk>:
	* spell.c (long_options): Add --tex (-t).
	(tex_mode): New variable.
	(main): Print help for --tex (-t) with --help output.
	(main): Process the --tex option.
	(run_ispell_in_child): Make new variables `args' and `nargs', an
	array of argument strings and the number of arguments,
	respectively. The following code is changed to use these, and
	execv is called instead of execl.
	Add the "-t" option to the list of arguments if tex_mode is
	nonzero.

	* str.c (str_free): New function.
	* spell.c (find_ispell): Free `path' and `file' before returning.
	(read_file): Free `str' before returning.
	(read_ispell): Likewise.
	(read_ispell_errors): Likewise.
	(parent): Free `ispell_version' and `str' in the block where
	they're defined.
	(parent): Don't define `file' "-" before going through the
	arguments.  It's unnecessary.
	(interactive): Variable removed. It's not used.

	Fixed by Christian von Roques <roques@pond.sub.org>:
	* str.c (str_to_nstr): Postpone allocation for `nstr' until we
	know `str' isn't NULL.
	(str_to_nstr): Fix NUL-termination of `nstr'.
	(int_to_str): Don't use sprintf to convert integers to
	characters.
	(int_to_str): Reverse `str' directly instead of copying it into
	another string.

Sun Mar  2 15:59:36 1997  Thomas Morgan  <tmorgan@gnu.ai.mit.edu>

	* configure.in: Don't check for stdarg.h. There are no longer any
	functions with a variable number of arguments.
	* spell.c, str.c: Don't include stdarg.h.

	* acconfig.h, configure.in (ISPELL): Removed. It is no longer
	used.

	* configure.in (VERSION): Don't compute this at configure time
	based on the source directory, because the installer may have
	renamed it.

Sun Mar  2 11:11:26 1997  Kaveh R. Ghazi  <ghazi@caip.rutgers.edu>

	[These changes were made on Mon Feb 24, 1997, but this ChangeLog
	entry was created later -- tmorgan.]

	* Makefile.in: Add ansi2knr support.  Add alloca.c support.
	* acconfig.h: Add missing stubs for ISPELL and VERSION. Add stub
	for PROTOTYPES to support ansi2knr.
	* configure.in:  Add AC_PREREQ for autoconf version 2.12.  Fix
	calculation of package version to work when srcdir != builddir.
	Include the string "version" in the version calculation to avoid
	ANSI string concatination elsewhere. Add AM_C_PROTOTYPES to
	support ansi2knr. Add AC_FUNC_ALLOCA to support alloca.c. Add
	checks for stdarg.h and sys/select.h.
	* spell.c: Include sys/select.h to support fd_set on AIX. Use
	stdarg.h and ellipses when HAVE_STDARG_H and __STDC__, otherwise
	use varargs. Wrap prototype arguments in PARAMS() macro for
	non-ANSI systems. Don't use string concatination in version[]
	variable. Ditto for help string. Relax static declaration of
	xmalloc when using alloca.c.
	* str.c: Use stdarg.h and sllipses when HAVE_STDARG_H and
	__STDC__, otherwise use varargs. Wrap prototype arguments in
	PARAMS() macro.
	* str.h: Declare PARAMS() macro and wrap prototypes arguments.
	* aclocal.m4: New file to support ansi2knr.
	* alloca.c: New file used when missing the alloca() function.
	* ansi2knr.1, ansi2knr.c: New files to support non-ANSI compilers.

Wed Feb 26 00:56:13 1997  Thomas Morgan  <tmorgan@gnu.ai.mit.edu>

	* spell.c (xrealloc, xstrdup): Make non-static.

Tue Feb 25 00:14:16 1997  Thomas Morgan  <tmorgan@gnu.ai.mit.edu>

	* str.c (xmalloc, xrealloc): Removed, and declared as extern
	functions.

	* spell.c (error): Removed.
	* str.c (error): Likewise.
	All callers changed to use fprintf and sometimes exit.

	* Makefile.am: New file.
	* acconfig.h: Add undefinition for PACKAGE.
	* configure.in (PACKAGE): Add definition and substitutions.
	Add timestamping to the AC_OUTPUT call.

	Reported by ir. Mark M. Kettenis <kettenis@phys.uva.nl>:
	* spell.c (main): Change the type of `opt' from char to int.
	* str.c (str_add_line): Likewise, for variable `c'.
	* spell.c (main): Make version and help output conformant to the
	GNU coding standards.

	Reported by Jim Meyering <meyering@asic.sc.ti.com>:
	* spell.c (main): Use spaces instead of tabs in --help output.

Mon Feb 24 23:23:03 1997  Thomas Morgan  <tmorgan@gnu.ai.mit.edu>

	* str.h: Include sys/types.h here.
	Reported by Tony Leneis <tony@plaza.ds.adp.com>.
	* str.c: Remove inclusion of sys/types.h, stdio.h, and stdlib.h.

	* str.c: Replace all occurrences of !PTR with PTR == NULL,
	and all occurrences of !CHAR with CHAR == '\0'.
