This is the GNU ecc library and sample program that make use of the library.
The library implements a 3-byte error correcting encoder/decoder based
on the Reed-Solomon (255, 249) code over the Galois Field (2^8). See the
manpage on ``ecc''.

See the file NEWS for a list of major changes in the current release.

The `m4' utility is required to build the package. Get GNU m4 if your
system does not have it; otherwise, edit ecclib/gf256.h from ecclib/gf256.m4
and man/gf256.3 from man/gf256.m4 manually.

See the file INSTALL for compilation and installation instructions.
After successful compilation, do 'make check' to run a small test
suite. Please investigate and report the problem if the test fails.

See the file README.too if you plan to use the library in your applications.

``ecc'' recognizes the `--version' option. When reporting bugs, please
include in the subject line both the word ``ecc'' and the version number.
