                   gPnPconf - v0.6.0 (beta)
            Derrik Pates (dmp8309@silver.sdsmt.edu)

I had this great idea one day - to build an application (applet, really)
that uses isapnptools to get information on devices and generate a
configuration file depending on what the user wants the devices configured
to. This is my attempt at it.

Of course, what language would be better (I thought) than Perl? Regular
expressions are the one of the gods' gifts to programming. And, of course,
what better widget set for an X-based UI than Gtk? So, I set myself to
coding many lines of Perl, using the Perl Gtk bindings for the UI.

Obviously, it's NOT as easy as I thought it would be. However, here it is.

What works?
===========
* Loading PnP dump data (direct from pnpdump or from file)
* Saving a configuration (to file or write direct to isapnp)
* Displaying card/logical device information
* Selecting device profiles
* Showing per-device resources
* Modifying the resource values

What would I like to have work?
===============================
* Optionally checking against running system settings
* Checking configured resources for conflicts with one another
* Look improvements to the UI (esp. the message dialogs)
* Maybe a version that uses dialog, etc. for an ncurses UI
* Better comments/more documentation

What does it need to run?
=========================
* Perl (developed with v5.00501, should work with 5.002 on up)
  * ftp://ftp.perl.org/pub/CPAN/src/
* Gtk (v1.0.6, to work with the Perl bindings correctly)
  * ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk/v1.0/
* Perl/Gtk bindings (v0.4 only, due to pixmap handling)
  * ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk/perl/
* isapnptools (I recommend v1.15 or 1.17)
  * http://www.roestock.demon.co.uk/isapnptools/
* A running X Window System installation (of course)

If you can help with this thing, if you have any suggestions on how to
implement my above ideas (or some squeaky-clean Perl code to merge in!),
or you'd just like to wish me well, e-mail me at dmp8309@silver.sdsmt.edu.
If you don't like it, however, send the flames elsewhere. You don't have
to like it. :)
