KERNEL
======
To add this package to your kernel you need to identify and apply
two separate patch files.

Let KVER be your kernel version and PVER be the current version
of this package. Included in the `kernel' directory in this package
there should be two patch files:

	patch-kernel-$KVER
	patch-perfctr-$PVER

`cd' to your kernel source directory and apply these two patch files
(in any order) with `patch -p1'.

patch-perfctr-$PVER simply adds two files and should never trigger
any warnings or errors from patch.

patch-kernel-$KVER may cause minor warnings if your kernel source
code is not identical to the one for which the patch was created.
As long as there are no rejects, things should be Ok.

Configure the modified kernel with CONFIG_PERFCTR=y, and compile,
install, reboot as usual. If you use modules, be advised that the
patch adds one word to the `task_struct', so the modified kernel
will not be binary compatible with an unmodified one. (However,
patched kernels will be binary compatible with each other, regardless
of the value of CONFIG_PERFCTR.)

USER-SPACE
==========
Let KSRC be the path to the source directory for the kernel you
modified and built above.

To configure the user-space library, you must run the Configure
script in the root directory of this package. Run

	./Configure

and answer its questions. As a short-cut, you can also run

	./Configure --kernel=$KSRC

to skip the questions (if the given path is correct).

Afterwards, run

	make

to build the user-space library and the example programs.
