New Features in Exim
--------------------

This file contains descriptions of new features that have been added to Exim,
but have not yet made it into the main manual (which is most conveniently
updated when there is a relatively large batch of changes). The ChangeLog file
contains a brief listing of *all* changes, including bug fixes.

Version 2.12
------------

1. The domainlist router now has qualify_single and search_parents options
which apply when "bydns" is specified. See the existing lookuphost options with
the same names.

Version 2.11
------------

1. The syntax check performed by setting dns_check_names is now done by a
regular expression rather than ad hoc code. The regular expression can be
changed by setting dns_check_names_pattern. The default value of this option is

  dns_check_names_pattern = (?i)^(?>(?(1)\.|())[^\W_](?>[a-z0-9-]*[^\W_])?)+$

which permits only letters, digits, and hyphens in components, but they may not
start or end with a hyphen.

2. It seems that some operating systems are broken in that they truncate the
argument of getpwnam() to eight characters instead of returning "no such user".
To cope with this situation, there is a new option called max_username_length.
If set greater than zero, any attempt to call getpwnam() with an argument that
is longer behaves as if getpwnam() failed.

3. If autoreply receives return code 2 from Exim when it submits the message,
indicating that there were no recipients, it does not treat this as an error.
This means that autoreplies sent to $sender_address when this is <> no longer
cause problems. This also applies to messages sent from filters, though the
filter "mail" command is in fact disabled when the incoming message has a
return path of <>.

4. There is experimental evidence that some MTAs (e.g. USA.NET-MTA v2.6) drop
the connection after the terminating "." when they don't like the contents of a
message for some reason. (Why they think this is better than returning 5xx is
unclear.) Exim has been changed to treat this as a message error instead of a
host error, so that other messages to the same host don't get delayed.

5. The smtp transport has a new option called hosts_override. If it is set, and
the "hosts" option is also set, then any hosts attached to the address are
overridden by the transport's hosts.

Version 2.10
------------

The documentation is up-to-date for the 2.10 release.
