IRManager 0.1.x
Quick Installation Guide

===========================

Here's how to get IRManager up and running in 6 steps. If (somehow) IRManager
was already installed for you (like using a package), you can skip to number
three.

0. At the moment, this thing only works with Linux on x86 hardware (I
presume). Also, it might require glibc 2.1, but I'm not sure about that.
I'm very interested in your success/horror stories.

1. Compile IRManager, typing 'make'.

2. Become root, and use 'make install' to install the binaries in
/usr/local/bin. If you don't want them there, or becoming root is sort of
a problem for you (known to happen!), you might as well leave the
   binaries wherever you want.

3. To start creating your own configuration, run 'irmanager-signalconf' (as
the user who is actually going to use IRManager - not root). It will help
you map your IR signals to appropriate names.

4. Now you need to create a configuration file which tells IRManager how to
make use of the signals you've just defined. The default location for the
file is ~/.irmanager/conf. (The directory might already have been created
by 'irmanager-signalconf'.) The example configuration file
(irmanager.conf.example) is pretty well commented, so you might copy it
to the default location, and adapt it to your needs. (Don't think
IRManager will do anything useful without adapting, 'cause it won't.)
Also, the IRManager manual page might prove to be a pretty interesting
read at some point as well!

5. If you've configured any output FIFO's (either named pipes or pty's) meant
to forward IR signals to other native IRMan applications (like XMMS),
configure those applications to read IRMan data from the FIFO you
specified. If you use pty's you need to restart those application after
   you've started IRManager.

6. Start irmanager: 'irmanager'. For debugging, the following options might
come in handy: 'irmanager -dl -'. Use 'irmanager -h' to get a complete
list of options (or check the manual page of course).

Good luck!,

If you have any questions about configuring (or any other IRManager related
aspect, for that matters), don't be afraid of asking. I'll try to answer
them, as long as I can tell you've really tried to do it yourself first!
