The optimum kernel and patch to use is architecture dependent.

    i386:

  	- Linux-2.4.17
	- patch-2.4.17-rthal5g.

    powerpc:

	Read Documentation/README.powerpc.patches for
	additional information about PowerPC patching.

    mips:

The MIPS rthal patch is separate from the others, and
the recommended kernel is 2.4.5-pre1, with the MIPS
	and IDT-MIPS patches applied.

	- Linux-2.4.5-pre1
	- patch-2.4.5-pre1-mips
	- patch-2.4.5-pre1-idtmips
	- patch-2.4.5-pre1-idtmips-rthal6.20011113

	Do not use patch-2.4.5-pre1-idtmips-rthal6.20011213.

    arm:
    	Old rtai version
	- Linux-2.4.17-18 or (preferred) 2.4.19
	- latest rmk patch from www.arm.linux.org.uk
	- if building for PXA2xx - a -pxaX patch
	- one of the following patches, depending on the kernel
	  version and the target CPU:
	  patch-2.4.18-rmk-arm-rthal5
	  patch-2.4.19-rmk-arm-rthal5
	  patch-2.4.19-rmk-pxa-arm-rthal5
	  patch-2.4.21-rmk-arm-fixed-rthal5 (note: apart from RTAI-specific
modifications it contains a critical for StrongARM patch for
		2.4.21 and several convenience changes)
	  patch-2.4.21-sa11x0-pxa-fixed-rthal5 (based on 2.4.21-rmk1-pxa1,
contains the above fixes, suitable for SA11x0 and PXA25x)

	New rtai version (Thomas)
	- please use those in arch/arm/patches
