If you have any questions that I don't cover here post them at the website.

1. Q.) What exactly is the purpose of this?

A.) This was made for people who might be more comfortable with an
analog multitrack recorder but either don't have access to one or would
like to use a computer for digital recording.

2.	Q.) Aren't there a couple of great programs for doing this
already? Why would I want to use your program instead?

A.) Yes there are, but these programs are more complicated and can
be confusing especially at 3:00 in the morning when you get a good idea
and try to install ardour and find you can't even open it to look around
without first setting up the jack server.

3.	Q.) What is ecasound?

A.) Ecasound is a software package designed for multitrack audio
processing. It can be used for simple tasks like audio playback, recording
and format conversions, as well as for multitrack effect processing,
mixing, recording and signal recycling. Ecasound supports a wide range of
audio inputs, outputs and effect algorithms. Effects and audio objects can
be combined in various ways, and their parameters can be controlled by
operator objects like oscillators and MIDI-CCs. A versatile console mode
user-interface is included in the package.

4. Q.) console mode user-interface?

A.) ecasound has no gui it is a command line only program.

5.	Q.) What format does gtkeca8 record in?

A.) As it comes out of the box gtkeca8 records at 16 bit @ 48,000
Hz one mono .wav file per track.

6.	Q.) How are my sessions organized on my hard-disk?

A.) sessions are stored in the GtkEca8 folder in your home folder.
if this folder doesn't exist it will be created. each session is a
directory containing one .wav file for each of the 8 tracks and if you made
a mix-down the file Mixdown.wav. this makes it easy to open any of the
tracks in the editor of your choice, apply effects to them or import the
whole thing into just about any multi-track program in existence.

7.	Q.) What hardware does it use?

A.) As it comes out of the box gtkeca8 uses your first alsa device.
alsa is the standard in the 2.6 kernels so most distros should have alsa
set up. all inputs and outputs are fully configurable by editing the file
/etc/GtkEca8/GtkEca8.ecs you can use anything ecasound supports including:
alsa, oss (/dev/dsp) and jack.

8.	Q.) When I try to open a saved session it won't work properly
what gives?

A.) Remember that your session is a directory. You must double
click your session so that the right column shows your 8 tracks and the
part that says Selection: reads something like this:

	Selection: /home/you/GtkEca8/your_session

then click ok. if it says:

	Selection: /home/you/GtkEca8

it will open the main session folder as a session and not work.

9.	Q.) Can I use spaces in my session names.

	A.) No. use an underscore ( _ ) instead.

10.	Q.) I get this error when installing or running the program:

mkdir: cannot create directory `<something>': File exists

A.) This is normal do not worry.

11.	Q.) Something else went wrong.

A.) run the program in a terminal window and it should give you a
lot more information as to what is actually going on. if you think you have
discovered a bug please post it at the web site.
