Notes on MacAnova Documentation Available for Downloading

                      An Introduction to MacAnova
An Introduction to MacAnova is a primer to get a novice started in
MacAnova. It is up-to-date as of release 2 (July 2001) of MacAnova 4.12.

It makes no pretence of being a comprehensive manual, but has examples
illustrating most features of the syntax and other aspects of using
MacAnova. In addition it has examples illustrating using MacAnova to do
paired t analysis, two-sample t-test, simple linear regression, one-way
ANOVA, randomized block (two-way) ANOVA, and multiple regression. For
learning MacAnova, we suggest you work through this Introduction,
duplicating the many examples.

The Introduction has 7 chapters: 1. Introduction, 2. Getting Started,
3. The Basics, 4. Building on the Basics, 5. Using Files, 6. Visualizing
numbers - drawing graphs, and 7. Examples of statistical analyses.

An Introduction to Macanova is available for downloading as Intro.pdf,
an Acrobat PDF file. This can be read or printed using Acrobat Reader
(sometimes called acroread), a freeware program available for most
computers, including Windows, Linux and Macintosh from
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.

                       MacAnova Reference Manual
The MacAnova Reference Manual is a computer-reformated compilation of
most of the information in the help files distributed with MacAnova. It
provides reference information on all commands and most macros
distribted with MacAnova, but is not suitable for learning MacAnova.
It is available in two forms, Acrobat PDF and HTML.

Acrobat PDF form
File referenc.pdf is the PDF format of the Version 4.12 MacAnova
Reference Manual. It can be read and printed using Acrobat Reader (see
above).

HTML form
The HTML form of the Macanova reference manual is available for on-line
browsing at http://www.stat.umn.edu/macanova/html_help. Or you can
download all the files to your computer for off-line browsing. They are
available as a Zip file for Windows, a compressed tar file for Linux and
Unix and as a binhexed compressed self extracting archive file for
Macintosh.

  System File Extract files with
Windows: htmlhelp.zip Winzip or Stuffit Expander available from
                               http://www.aladdinsys.com/expander
  Macintosh htmlhelp.sea.Hqx Stuffit Expander from
                               http://www.aladdinsys.com/expander, or may
                               be automatically expanded on download
Linux htmlhelp.tar.gz 'gunzip htmlhelp.tar' and then
                               'tar xf htmlhelp.tar'

You should create a folder or directory, say 'help_html', where all the
files are installed. You start up by opening help_html/index.html using
Open on your browser's File Menu. You must start the browser outside of
Macanova.

                       MacAnova 4.07 User's Guide
This is a comprehensive manual for Version 4.07 with many examples and
an extensive table of contents. The appendices contain detailed
information on running MacAnova on Windows and DOS, on a Macintosh, and
on Linux/Unix. Virtually everything in it is still applicable to more
recent versions, but of course it lacks information on features
introduced since Version 4.07. As time permits, the Users' Guide will
be updated to the most recent version. Files are in directory manual
(ftp://ftp.stat.umn.edu/pub/macanova/docs/manual).

Files with names of the form manXXXXX.pdf (manchp05.pdf, for example)
are Acrobat PDF files each containing a full or half chapter or an
Appendix to the Users' Guide. Each have clickable indices with entries
for every sub section.

For convenience in downloading, these have been bundled into to two sets
available in Zip format for Windows and Binhexed self extracting archive
format for Macintosh.

   Windows mvmanpt1.zip and mvmanpt2.zip
   Macintosh MVManPt1.sea.Hqx and MVManPt2.sea.Hqx

In addition to the above, you can download a compressed tar file
containing MacAnova documentation files, including all the Users' Guide
PDF files, referenc.pdf, and Intro.pdf, but not the html files. The
file is ftp://ftp.stat.umn.edu/pub/macanova/docs/docs.tar.gz.

We welcome comments on and corrections to MacAnova's documentation
