                              Introduction

MacAnova is distributed under the terms of the GNU Public License,
Version 2. See file Copying.txt distributed with MacAnova. The latest
versions of MacAnova may be obtained over the Internet from its home
page
   http://www.stat.umn.edu/macanova/

You can get documentation and source code there as well.

See file Readme.osx.txt for information on documentation, starting
MacAnova and features specific to Windows and DOS.

Copying.txt and Readme.osx.txt are installed automatically with MacAnova
in the SharedSupport directory.

A standard MacAnova installation includes two program files (one for
Windows and one for DOS), various auxiliary help and macro files,
all documentation in PDF format, and all help in html (browseable)
format.

                        Which Platform Do You Want?

This document relates to installation of the Mac OS X version of
MacAnova. Most people who run OS X on their Macintosh will want the
OS X version. It has a newer user interface with more features.
There is also a Mac OS 8/9 version. The Mac OS version will
run on most Macs (including OS X under Classic), but it has a less
capable user interface.

                        Downloading from the Web

Start at the download page www.stat.umn.edu/macanova/downloadmac.html.
Then follow the links to OS X MacAnova. Download the MacAnova
disk image to your hard drive.

                        What Files Do You Need?

MacAnova for Mac OS X comes as a disk image (.dmg) file, for example,
MacAnova5.04.1.dmg. The disk image contains the MacAnova application
bundle and a folder that contains pdf documentation and html
documentation.

                           Installing MacAnova

Simply drag the contents of the disk image to some convenient place on
your hard drive, perhaps the Applications folder. Note: the MacAnova
application bundle contains its own copy of the html help files, but
they are a little tricky to access unless you are a bit of a OS X guru.

                       What to Do After Installation

Once you've copied MacAnova to your disk, you don't need to keep
the installation disk image.

Just double click and go to start MacAnova.

                            File Manifests

will find

                            Start with index.htm or Contents.htm

The MacAnova program is actually a bundle of files, and quite a few
things of interest are inside the bundle. You can get inside the
bundle by control-clicking on MacAnova. Inside is a folder named
